Crevole Madonna (Madonna and Child with Two Angels)
Artist: Duccio di Buoninsegna;
Tempera and gold on panel, 89x60 cm, Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, Siena.

Crevole Madonna (The Madonna and Child with Two Angels) is considered to be an art work from the beginning of Duccio di Buoninsegna career, it was finished around 1280. The painting got its name from the church of Santa Cecilia a Crevole in the environs of Siena, where it was located for a period, but its small size and the intimate character of the composition suggest that it was originally painted for private use.
In Crevole Madonna, we find a wonderful blend of elements of Byzantine derivation, reminders of Cimabue and innovations by Duccio himself.
